The fundraiser, organized by fellow nursing student Kanaan Rogers, aims not only to support Riley's family but also "raise homicide awareness." "She was a wonderful friend, sister, daughter, etc. who touched the lives of everyone around her," Rogers said, echoing the sentiments of many who knew Riley. On the fateful day, Riley was reported to have gone for a morning run by Lake Herrick on campus but never returned. Police later arrested Jose Antonio Ibarra, 26, on charges including malice murder. Ibarra has been accused of entering a the U.S. illegally and his current immigration status remains unknown.
Riley, described as a "bright and dedicated student" who was enrolled in an Augusta University nursing program, left an indelible mark on those she knew. Before her transfer, she was a UGA student and remained active in her sorority. The Augusta University College of Nursing mourned the loss of "a shining light," noting Riley's compassion and drive to serve others in the healthcare field. "Her passion for health care science and running are to be admired," observed River Ridge High School cross country coach Keith Hooper, as reported by 11Alive.
