A late-night car crash on a Houston freeway has claimed the life of a 45-year-old woman, according to local authorities. The victim, identified as Rosa Trujillo, was involved in a collision that occurred on East Loop South (East Interstate Highway 610) last Friday night.
According to Houston police, Trujillo was driving a silver Honda Accord northbound, when she reportedly swerved out of her lane for unknown reasons and struck a concrete structure on the freeway. The vehicle then collided with a white Chevrolet Tahoe, an off-duty Houston police officer's car, which was stationed inside a barricaded area for traffic control with its emergency lights on. Trujillo's car also hit a utility trailer following the initial impact.
Trujillo was pronounced dead at the scene by the Houston Fire Department. A 45-year-old male passenger in the Honda was taken to Harris Health Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening. No other individuals were involved in the transport for medical attention following the incident.
The HPD Vehicular Crimes Division's Sergeant Y. Ramirez and Officer T. Syed are looking into what led to the tragic series of events. The reason Trujillo veered from her lane, remains, as of yet unclear. The investigation is ongoing.
