With an eye on the future, the city council has earmarked funds for four key areas: public safety, animal welfare, parks, and roads. Taxpayers could see a modest uptick in their bills, the maximum projected property tax rate increase being a mere 1.5 cents, translating to about $4.39 per month for the median-valued home, based on last year's values. The proposed financial injection includes $198.9 million for comprehensive street enhancements and $47.9 million dedicated to park development, to enrich community spaces. The package also allocates $9.9 million for expanding the Gene Carey Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, with a further $6.7 million targeted toward bolstering public safety facilities.
Voters will contemplate the ambitious plan across four propositions. Proposition A targets public safety, including the construction of fire access facilities and the potential relocation of Fire Station #4. Proposition B focuses on the well-being of the city's four-legged residents, while Proposition C and Proposition D address the desire for public spaces, and the dire need for modernized roadways, respectively.
