A Lithonia man is now a convicted murderer after a jury found him guilty of stabbing his mother to death in 2020. Antonio Williams, 28, faced jurors in DeKalb County and received his verdict on Monday, almost four years to the day after the brutal crime.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the altercation that led to the death of Terri Alexander, Williams' mother, stemmed from an argument about an unclean bathroom. The DeKalb County Police Department's Mobile Crisis Unit responded to the scene on February 25, 2020. It was reported that Williams, suffering from mental health issues, was off his prescribed medication, reason why he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital's mental health unit.
Following his release from the hospital, Williams and his mother stopped by a store before heading home on March 4, 2020. The following day, the lifeless body of Alexander was discovered by police in the garage of their home, concealed under a sheet and with various stab wounds. Investigators found damning evidence including a bloody chef's knife, towels, shoes, and a partly burned sheet, as confirmed by The Georgia Sun.
The conviction sheds light once more on issues of domestic violence and the critical importance of mental health support. With Williams awaiting sentencing, his trial stands as a grim lesson for the Lithonia community and beyond. “This verdict is a somber reminder of the consequences of domestic violence and the importance of addressing mental health issues within the community,” as stated by The Georgia Sun. DeKalb County Judge Winston Bethel is expected to schedule a sentencing hearing for Williams in the coming weeks.
