In a swift response to a violent episode, Cambridge authorities have handcuffed a Lowell man believed to be the assailant in a double stabbing earlier this January. As per the Cambridge Police Department, 23-year-old Joshua Barreau was nabbed in Boston, facing accusations of wielding a blade against two individuals outside a popular eatery.
The incident that thrust Barreau into the hands of the law occurred on January 4, when the Cambridge Police were beckoned to The Halal Guys restaurant on White Street following a stabbing fiasco. Barreau alleged to have fled the scene, leaving behind a knife at the MBTA Porter Square station, his trail ran cold until detectives pieced together the puzzle. The victims, luckily, were spared from death’s door with injuries deemed non-critical.
Efforts to close the gap on Barreau intensified as Cambridge detectives received a tip-off from the public, spurred by surveillance footage and cooperation from surrounding precincts. The Cambridge Police, grateful for the community's sharp eyes and swift action, acknowledged the collective effort in bringing the suspect to justice.
With a lead at hand, and after securing an arrest warrant, Boston Police managed to track down Barreau. Cambridge Police took a moment to extend their gratitude to the public for their pivotal role. "Cambridge Police would like to thank the community for its help in identifying the suspect," a declaration from the Cambridge Police Department read.
Barreau's charges in Cambridge District Court include two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
