In heartwarming efforts by the Make-A-Wish Foundation, two young individuals’ dreams have recently been realized in unforgettable experiences. Teagan, a 9-year-old girl from the Valley, was surprised at Phoenix's Pecos Park with news that her wish to visit Universal Studios in Florida was granted. According to AZ Family, this announcement was accompanied by cheers from over 100 individuals including her youth lacrosse team and Arizona State University's women's lacrosse team.
Supporting her journey, Teagan's father expressed gratitude toward the community for coming together to uplift her spirits amidst a long battle with an undisclosed illness. He mentioned in a statement obtained by AZ Family, "It has been a long battle with Teagan’s diagnosis and to have the entire community come together to support her wish is incredible." The young girl and her family are also scheduled to visit Walt Disney World and the Give Kids The World Village in Florida later this month.
Similarly, 18-year-old Avery Spurger from Alba experienced joy when the Make-A-Wish Foundation arranged for him to meet his favorite band, Big Time Rush. As reported by News-Journal, Avery, who suffers from Systemic Onset Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis and Wolf Parkinson White Syndrome, embarked on a trip to Los Angeles for the meet-and-greet of a lifetime.
With authenticity that could be felt in the weight of his words, Avery let out a big smile and stated, "Oh yes, I would definitely like that," when contemplating singing and dancing onstage with the band. Avery's mother Amy shared with News-Journal the harrowing journey since his diagnosis, detailing the severe pain, hospitalizations, and intense treatments he has endured. Despite these adversities, Avery continues to persevere, attending school and working at Walmart.
The generosity of the Make-A-Wish Foundation has provided both children with much-needed respites from their medical challenges, granting them moments of pure joy and normalcy. Such gestures not only serve as a testament to the power of community support, but also cast a light on the strength and resilience of the human spirit, particularly as it manifests in these young warriors.
