In a shocking burst of violence in northeast Harris County, a family reel from an abrupt and severe escalation after a day of work turned into a night of terror. A man was critically injured when gunfire erupted following a shoplifting incident at the local 99 Cents Only Store where his relative was employed. The Harris County Sheriff's Office is actively investigating the connection between the earlier retail theft and the later shooting.
According to Click2Houston, the series of events began with an argument at the discount store located at Little York Road and Highway 59, where a man and a woman were implicated in a robbery. After the altercation, the duo fled, and the female employee left shortly thereafter with a child and a male relative in tow. It's reported that this same pair were then ambushed by what appeared to be the robbery suspects who discharged their weapon at the family's vehicle.
The aftermath left a man shot in the chest, a woman, and a 10-year-old child shaken but physically unharmed. "It appears all I can say is that the suspects were recognized by the employee as being in the store and part of the disturbance. Whether or not they were specifically targeted, or it was just a fluke that they pulled in behind them and were recognized is another story," HCSO Sgt. Jonathan Ryan described the uncertain premise of the assault to Click2Houston.
The injured victim was urgently transported to a local hospital for surgery. As law enforcement seeks to piece together the events leading up to the shooting, details remain scarce. What is clear, however, is that the suspects linked to both the store altercation and subsequent shooting are at large. Adding to the narrative, ABC13 noted a child also in the vehicle was luckily unscathed during the attack.
