Tragedy struck on the northside of town early Sunday morning when a man perished after his car careered into a fence and erupted into flames. KENS 5 reports that the fatal incident occurred on the 800 block of Briarcliff Drive near Blanco Road, around 2:28 a.m., according to the San Antonio Police Department.
Upon arrival, police found the vehicle had lost control, slamming into a fence with the driver pinned underneath. Initially, when crews arrived at the scene, it was believed that the vehicle was empty, only to discover the driver while working to extinguish the fire, as reported by KENS 5.
The situation quickly escalated when the car caught fire immediately following the crash, complicating rescue efforts. Firefighters and first responders joined police at the somber scene to attempt a rescue.
An official statement disclosed by KSAT clarified that the man was found in critical condition under the vehicle. Even after first responders performed life-saving measures at the scene, he tragically died, with no other individuals reported to be injured during the devastating episode.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation, as authorities work to understand the circumstances that led to the driver losing control of his vehicle.
