A young man's drive through Chicago's Irving Park neighborhood took a fatal turn early Thursday morning when his vehicle was riddled with bullets, leading to a series of crashes that ended his life. According to the Chicago Tribune, the 21-year-old victim was traveling east on North Whipple Street around 3:30 a.m. when a white Jeep commenced pursuit near West Montrose Avenue.
The chase soon turned deadly as a gunman within the Jeep opened fire, striking the victim in the back of the head. To flee, the wounded driver lost control, his car careening into multiple parked vehicles before coming to a stop against a tree. FOX 32 Chicago reported that the man was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities, and to date, he has not been identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
Investigators are searching for leads on the white Jeep, which was last seen heading south on Whipple Street. The area is now a blend of crime scene markers and destroyed vehicles painting a stark montage of the night's events.
