A deadly blaze swept through a Littleton, N.H., residence on Saturday morning, tragically claiming the life of a man. Authorities, upon being alerted at approximately 9:39 AM, descended upon the house at 12 Hilltop Manor Extension, where they encountered an extinguished fire alongside the deceased individual.
Firefighters, scrambled to the scene following a dispatch around 9:40 a.m., were initially called for a report of a man with burns and smoke emanating from the building. According to WMUR, Littleton Fire Chief Chad Miller shared the grim details of the incident, revealing the fire and the victim upon the team's arrival. The investigation into the somber sequence that led up to the fatality is now being rigorously pursued by local police, fire officials, and the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal's Office.
The importance of home fire safety was sternly reiterated by New Hampshire State Fire Marshal Toomey in the wake of the tragedy. “State Fire Marshal Toomey would like to remind everyone of the importance of having working smoke alarms in their homes," reported Boston 25 News. He further emphasized that at the first sign of smoke or the ringing of an alarm, residents should not hesitate to leave their property and contact emergency services immediately.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Saturday, which, while shedding light on the exact cause of death, awaits results that might assist in piecing together the origin and cause of the fire. Having a home fire escape plan and keeping exits accessible was elucidated by Toomey's statement, hoping to prevent such incidents from recurring. As the Littleton community grapples with the loss, authorities are urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to step forward and assist by contacting the NH State Fire Marshal's Office.
