A man was left fighting for his life early Wednesday morning following a heated confrontation that erupted in gunfire, officials said. The shooting occurred in Southwest Atlanta at 1687 Beechwood Blvd SW, where Atlanta Police Department responded to reports of a person shot at approximately 1:29 am.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a male victim with a gunshot wound – he was alert, conscious, and breathing. Immediate first aid was provided by the officers until Grady emergency personnel arrived, transporting the victim to a local hospital for further medical treatment, as detailed in a statement from the Atlanta Police Department.
Authorities were able to secure the area and found the alleged shooter at the scene. Identified as Victor Carter, born April 1961, the suspect was promptly arrested. According to the preliminary investigation, an argument had escalated, leading Carter to draw a firearm and shoot the victim.
Carter, whom authorities have charged with Aggravated Assault and two counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, was taken to Fulton County Jail without further incident. His history with the law compounded the severity of the charges, underlining the gravity and consequences of recidivism, the Atlanta Police Department elaborated.
