A man is in serious condition after being struck by a car near the Westgate Entertainment District in Glendale, as Glendale Avenue was closed in both directions while police conducted an investigation of the incident. According to 12 News, the collision took place at the intersection of 91st and Glendale avenues on a recent Friday night. The victim, who was crossing Glendale Avenue heading north, suffered serious injuries after being hit by the vehicle whose driver claimed to have not seen him.
In a disturbingly similar incident, gunfire erupted at the same Westgate Entertainment District, sending an 18-year-old to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. The teen was critically wounded in a parking lot confrontation involving a group inside a light-colored sedan and another group on foot, "Arizona's Family" reported. Glendale Police, lacking a detailed description of the three suspects or their vehicle, are canvassing for witnesses. During the unsettling event, a man bravely intervened to aid the injured teen, preventing further violence when the suspects' car appeared to approach them.
The teen, who remains unnamed, was aided by a bystander after managing to flee despite his injuries. "The car started to follow him, started to chase him around the parking lot. So after the car drove off, it looked like the other guy was trying to help the guy," said an anonymous witness who observed the scene from his apartment, as he described the aftermath of the shooting in an interview with Arizona’s Family. The good Samaritan rushed to the teen's side, subsequently covering his wounds and calling for emergency services.
The two incidents, while separate, highlight ongoing safety concerns at the Westgate Entertainment District. Glendale Police Department has appealed to the public for information regarding both cases, offering the contact number (623) 930-3000 for potential leads.
