A man was discovered wounded by gunfire late Monday night in the shadow of Chicago's Midway Airport, a stone's throw from the roaring jets and bustling terminals that define the city's southwest side, as per CBS. Responding police found the man with injuries to his leg and head at a residence located on the 5300 block of South Kolin Avenue just past the 11 p.m. hour.
The victim, who has yet to be publicly identified, was rushed to Christ Hospital where he was reported to be in good condition despite his wounds. In a corner of the city frequently punctuated by the din of overhead planes there was the staccato of gunfire, a sound too ordinary in Chicago's tapestry of violence, according to FOX 32 Chicago, who described the victim as being "very uncooperative" with the police, a silence that speaks to the fear that grips tight many communities here.
Eyewitness accounts given to the officers pointed to a white Jeep speeding away from the scene southbound through an alley. Despite this, no arrests have been made and detectives from Area One have been tasked with unraveling the skein of events that led to the shooting.
The police continue to ask for public assistance in identifying the shooter, or shooters, and the white Jeep that is reported to have fled the scene.
