In a move to foster communication with those who struggle to convey their needs, Mankato Police and Fire departments have introduced "Bit of Grace Sensory Emergency Kits" into every one of their emergency vehicles. According to a Facebook post by the Police and Fire department, the new kits aim to help the public safety staff engage more effectively with community members who face challenges during high-tension situations.
The kits are designed as tools to de-escalate situations by offering alternative communication methods. Coming into every call, police vehicles and fire trucks will be equipped with these kits, ensuring they are available 24/7. "After weeks of waiting, we finally got the chance to meet Owen," revealed the department's recent social media update.
It's noted that the Mankato departments had been looking forward to the integration of these kits for some time. "We learned about these bags a couple of months ago and immediately ordered 30 of them to outfit our police and fire vehicles," the post detailed, highlighting the proactive steps taken by the safety personnel to address communication barriers within the community.
Owen, presumably affiliated with the kit's supplier or manufacturer, is mentioned as receiving a warm welcome from the team upon his arrival. Stitched into the fabric of these kits is the hope that they will serve as a bridge between the community and the public servants sworn to protect it. The post also expressed appreciation for Owen's visit, saying, "It was great to meet you and your family, Owen. You’re welcome back anytime!"
