Efforts by the victim, and another shopper to block Desmond's escape proved unsuccessful as he initially fled the scene. However, he did not get far before the swift intervention of Market Basket employees who managed to halt and subdue him. The struggle turned physical when Desmond bit one of the workers, resulting in minor injuries.
The perpetrator is known as Robert Desmond, a Manchester resident with no fixed address, and he now faces charges including robbery, simple assault and possession of a controlled substance. The Manchester Ink Link informed readers that Desmond was apprehended by police and received these charges following his failed bid for theft.
