Mayor Jacob Frey took the podium at City Hall today to honor local organizations for bolstering Minneapolis's workforce. Pillsbury United Communities (PUC) and YWCA Minneapolis were on the receiving end of mayoral praise and proclamations for their efforts in advancing career opportunities for city residents.
"When we invest in our employees, our entire community benefits," Mayor Frey remarked, according to a post on the City of Minneapolis Facebook page. With an Outstanding Innovation award, PUC was celebrated for its unique hair care stylist workforce development program. Simultaneously, the YWCA Minneapolis was getting recognized, receiving the Promising Practices award for its work in early childhood education.
These accolades were not just for show; Mayor Frey's administration has staked a claim to creating an equitable workforce as a top priority for Minneapolis. Backing up their commitment with support and resources, the Minneapolis Workforce Development Board (MWDB) and Minneapolis Employment and Training (MET) are the pillars upholding the programs lauded today.
