
A 36-year-old man from Maywood, Illinois has been slapped with a slew of charges including first-degree murder and attempted murder, after a deadly shooting and subsequent confrontation with police, officials said. The accused, Rodgerick Oneal of the 800 block of S. 12th Ave., was apprehended and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 43-year-old male and an exchange of gunfire with officers during a follow-up investigation.
Oneal's rap sheet from the February 23 incident on the 5400 block of W. Chicago Ave includes one felony count of first-degree murder, one felony count of murder with a strong probability of death or injury, two counts of attempted first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated battery against a peace officer, as well as six misdemeanor counts of resisting or obstructing a police officer, firefighter, or correctional employee according to Chicago Police Department reporting.
During the investigation the following day in Dolton, Illinois, officers encountered Oneal, and gunfire was exchanged although no one was hit, he was detained and is now facing justice in the charges laid before him. Oneal's detention hearing took place at the 2600 S. California court on February 27, 2024, additional details pertaining to the case have not been disclosed at this time.
