An incident unfolded in a quiet Miami Beach neighborhood where a worker, affiliated with AT&T, was found deceased on Wednesday afternoon. The incident took place near the 1500 block of West 24th Street, close to the Miami Beach Golf Club. A co-worker stumbled upon the victim, who was then pronounced dead at the scene by Miami Beach Fire Rescue personnel, as reported by Local 10 News.
Chopper footage, captured by NBC 6 Miami, showed the sight of a ladder against a pole, and the covered body of the worker lying on the ground, an AT&T van ominously parked nearby. Although the immediate vicinity is riddled with power lines, police indicated they have yet to confirm if the worker was electrocuted.
The Miami Beach Police have taken the reins of this death investigation, though they have yet to release the worker's identity or age to the public. Despite reports of electrocution, authorities confirmed the cause of death wasn't electric shock. As the scene was secured, first responders were seen discussing the tragic turn of events with clearly distraught workers in the vicinity.
"We are deeply saddened that we lost a valued member of the AT&T family, and our thoughts go out to the employee’s family, friends, and co-workers. We are cooperating with police in their investigation," AT&T expressed in a statement obtained by Local 10 News. The investigation is ongoing as authorities and the community seek answers to this sudden loss.
