
Early this morning, a reported car theft turned deadly when a man in Northwest Miami-Dade shot and killed an individual allegedly trying to steal his vehicle. Miami-Dade police arrived at the scene around 79th Avenue and Northwest 194th Street after receiving a call about a shooting, as per Local 10.
Officials described how the confrontation unfolded: the vehicle owner caught the subject in the act of breaking into the car. Then, the owner intervened, which led to an altercation where, the owner drew his gun and the subject was fatally wounded. Following the altercation, the wounded car thief managed to drive away only to collide with several other vehicles before coming to a halt, as reported by WSVN. A passenger in the car fled the scene and is currently sought by the police.
Witnesses in the Northwest Miami-Dade neighborhood witnessed a large police presence and the aftermath of the attempted theft and subsequent shooting. The incident left the area cordoned off for several hours as investigators focused on a white car that wound up crashed amongst other cars near the scene.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the situation, and pronounced the carjacking suspect dead at the scene, his body discovered near the crashed vehicle. The identity of the deceased has not been released to the public, and authorities continue to investigate, looking for lore information on the passenger that managed to escape.
