A Miami man has been sentenced to 2 and a half years behind bars for swindling investors out of $735,000 in a fraudulent scheme. On Monday, the Justice Department announced that 29-year-old Jack Connor Ridall, the mastermind behind Stratcapital LLC, Guss Capital LLC, and Guss Actium Manager LLC, misled his victims to believe they were investing in legitimate ventures.

Ridall was supposed to use the investors' money for various investments, but instead, federal prosecutors said he lavished the cash on high-end retail splurges, fancy hotels, dining, and even made illegal money transfers to relatives. In November last year, he pled guilty to one count of wire fraud, as the Justice Department's press release stated. The FBI's probe, with aid from the Securities and Exchange Commission, helped to bring Ridall to justice. The scheme was said to have successfully fooled at least three people into forking over their funds, based on fabrications regarding Ridall's investment prowess and the safety of the investments.

U.S. District Judge Donald M. Middlebrooks was the one to hand down the 30-month sentence. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Roger Cruz, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Marx Calderon is apparently handling the asset forfeiture side of things. The Bloomberg Law Automation report notes the duped investors were falsely reassured of their non-existent investment returns through forged legal documents and audit reports.

For those interested in the intricate details of the case, information can be found on the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida website, or the District Court for the Southern District of Florida's website. Ridall's fraudulent ways have now caught up to him, with the hammer of justice swiftly and surely bringing his investment scam to an abrupt end. Ridall's legal team has yet to publicly comment on the sentence.
