Minneapolis continues its push for expansion and improvement across the city with new affordable housing projects and proposed bus route changes. Council Member Linea Palmisano shared their latest initiatives with 13th Ward residents, including the completion of a new Minneapolis Public Housing building soon to be home to six families. The structure is part of a larger effort involving 16 buildings and 84 deeply affordable units. "This very dignified housing is finally move-in ready," Palmisano said in a statement obtained by 13th Ward News.

City efforts to beef up public transportation were also discussed, with Metro Transit proposing changes to the Route 4 bus. The plans aim to improve the customer experience with stop consolidation, and new amenities like concrete pads at stops, to improve access. Public input is being sought for these changes, set for implementation in August 2024. Yet, these stops relocated to signalized intersections may reduce delays, and residents can weigh in via a project website and linked survey.

In a refreshing twist on local governance, Palmisano, doubling as a culinary competitor, participated in a chili cookoff, promoting local chef DeVette Evans’s burgeoning catering business. Personal touches also included a shoutout to their son’s robotics team, illustrating the council member's involvement in both community and family life.

Voting is also top of mind for Minneapolis citizens, as early voting for the presidential primary has already kicked off. All mail-in ballots must be received by March 5 – a deadline emphasizing the importance of civic engagement. "I chose early vote this year, worried my schedule on March 5 won't get me to the primary this year. And it's super quick and easy," Palmisano remarked in the 13th Ward News.

The city's commitment to sustainability and community continues as Minneapolis residents are called to participate in the environmental lottery offering $30 trees for their yards. This initiative seeks to expand the city's tree canopy, especially in green zones, which suffer from lower coverage. Interested parties can register for the lottery by March 31, but it's before the trees can be picked up, participants will receive an email with instructions on order.
