A harrowing brush with death occurred in Downtown Boston as a mammoth 20-foot glass window came crashing down near a Home Goods store, narrowly missing a pedestrian who was exiting the store, this shocking scenario played out yesterday afternoon, Boston Police confirmed after getting alerted to the incident at approximately 3:15 p.m. by an alert bystander.
The window, which reportedly belonged to the store located at 350 Washington Street, shattered upon impact with the sidewalk, the scene was a chaotic jumble of razor-sharp shards where just moments before Bostonians walked unawares of the looming danger above, according to Boston 25.
"I was doing my job and happened to look outside and I saw that glass falling," Mak Celestin, who witnessed the incident from his security post across the street, shared his observation of the tense moment as the pane descended, told Boston 25. Celestin also recounted how the glass panel missed striking a customer by inches as she made her way out of the premises, she was visibly shaken and emotional yet grateful to have escaped unscathed from what could have been a fatal incident.
Although the woman was found with glass fragments on her clothing, she did not require medical attention and declined the assistance of EMS responders when offered; fortunately, there were no reports of injuries sustained, the aftermath could have played out much differently, a testament to the sheer luck that enveloped the woman and spared the onlookers from tragedy as the shards of glass rained down, according to Boston 25.
Responders from Boston Inspectional Services were dispatched to the scene to gauge the extent of the damage and investigate the cause of such a structural failure.
