In an unexpected turn of events, Gloria Cordova, the grieving mother of the late Savanah Soto, found herself on the wrong side of the law after being taken into custody during a court hearing for one of the suspects in her daughter's murder case. Cordova was arrested on a warrant for failure to stop and give information related to an unrelated case, according to the San Antonio Current.
The drama unfolded as Ramon Preciado sought to have his $600,000 bail reduced in the deaths of Soto, who was pregnant, and her boyfriend Matthew Guerra—both were allegedly victims of a botched drug deal on December 21, killed by Preciado's son Christopher Preciado and the judge, amidst the courtroom commotion, ruled to lower Preciado's bail to $450,000; he stands charged with abuse of a corpse and altering, destroying or concealing a corpse as reported by the San Antonio Current.
Soto's mother's arrest added to the ongoing tragedy of a case that has captured the attention of San Antonio and the nation for its brutal nature. Ramon Preciado and his wife Myrta Romanos are accused of helping their son cover up the grisly crime. Earlier, Romanos had her bail reduced from $1.1 million to $600,000; her charges include tampering with evidence with intent to impair a police investigation, alongside abuse and concealment of a corpse.
The attorneys for Preciado and Romanos labeled the initial bail amounts as "oppressive," and in Ramon Preciado's case, the judge agreed, granting a reduction. The Preciados and Romanos have been thrust into a spotlight far bleaker than anyone would wish, entangled in an alleged conspiracy to obscure the final resting place of two young lives ended too soon and, with Monday's arrest of Soto's mother, the sorrow has deepened like an unkind winter, relentless in its chill as reported by the KSAT.
