While the average cost to microchip a pet ranges from $25 to over $60, the Noble Friends Foundation for OC Animal Care is footing the bill for the first 100 animals. The giveaway includes free registration of the owner's details. Yet, with space for just 100 dogs and cats, a first-come-first-served policy is in place. Pet owners need to be residents of the 14 contracted service cities or live in County unincorporated areas, and must provide a California ID or photo ID, plus proof of residence such as a utility bill or rental agreement, to participate, as per ocgov.com.
All pets brought to the event must be at least 8 weeks old, dogs should be on leashes no longer than 6 feet, and cats must be secured in carriers, no feral traps are allowed.
