An off-duty deputy in Richfield, still clad in his uniform, made a notable intervention at a gas station when he was unexpectedly called upon to thwart an attempted carjacking incident. Deputy Shinwaray, who was finishing his shift and stopping for gas, leaped into action after being flagged down for assistance.
Caught on his body-worn camera were the tense moments where the suspect aggressively removed a gas nozzle from a victim's vehicle mid-refuel and then tried to brazenly hijack the car. Deputy Shinwaray managed to quickly get control of the situation, subduing the suspect before he could inflict more chaos.
The Richfield Police Department and BPD_MN later reported that the suspect, 29-year-old Brandon Manypenny, was taken into custody and hit with felony robbery and theft charges. Praise poured in for Deputy Shinwaray's prompt response, even as his duty shift had technically ended. The Hennepin Sheriff's official X account thanked him for his actions, complementing their post with images captured during the incident.
