Tragedy struck early Friday morning in north Phoenix when one person perished in a fiery automobile incident. The Phoenix Police Department and rescue crews were dispatched to the vicinity of 27th Street and Greenway Road following numerous 911 calls about a vehicle engulfed in flames around 5 a.m, as reported by ABC15. Although the blaze was rapidly contained, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures, it was too late for one individual found deceased in the charred remains of the car.
The aftermath of the crash meant Greenway Road was closed, with traffic expected to be rerouted for several hours as part of the ongoing investigation. With firefighters putting out the fire, for treatment, a second person was taken to the hospital, as AZFamily noted in their coverage of the incident.
What led to the catastrophic event that ended with flames devouring a vehicle and snuffing out a life is currently under investigation. Phoenix police have not divulged details about the cause of the crash. The second victim's condition has not been released.
