An Ottawa County lottery club has hit the jackpot, winning a massive $6 million from the Michigan Lottery's 500X Money Maker instant game. The club's winning moment came when one of its members bought the golden ticket at Down The Hatch Party Store on Ottawa Beach Road in Holland, as reported by the Detroit Free Press.
The members of the club shared their disbelief, stating it took multiple glances at the ticket to confirm the prize. "I woke up my wife and said: 'I think I just won a really big prize; you have to come look at this,'" a club member told MI-Lottery. The fortunate winners opted to take a lump sum payment of approximately $4.1 million rather than an annuity.
The store where the winning ticket was purchased, Down The Hatch Party Store, has become a part of the local lore as the place where luck struck. The Lottery club members have not yet disclosed their identities but made clear their intentions to pay off debts and save the majority of their windfall.
One club member expressed a sentiment of lingering shock, saying, "It’s still hard to believe that we really won," in an interview with 13 ON YOUR SIDE. The reality of their new financial status may only sink in "until we see the new balance in our bank accounts." Despite their newfound wealth, it seems the members are staying grounded with financial prudence in mind.
The 500X Money Maker game has awarded more than $90 million since its launch in September 2023 and still has two more $6 million prizes up for grabs, along with numerous other substantial awards. Meanwhile, Michigan Lottery players claimed more than $1.7 billion in winnings from instant games in 2022 alone, contributing to the hope that the next big win could be just a scratch away.
