Chaos ensued in Pacifica when police descended on a quiet residential block late Wednesday night in response to a sinister hoax, the Pacifica Police Department reported. The distressing call suggested a horrific scene: a man claiming to have murdered his parents, in possession of an assault rifle, threatening harm to children held inside the house at the 500 block of Beaumont Boulevard.
Officers from Pacifica, aided by their counterparts from South San Francisco PD and San Bruno PD, rushed to the scene, cordoning off the area and struggling to make contact with the people inside – hoping, beyond hope, to ensure the safety of any victims and to neutralize what appeared to be a volatile gunman inside. According to the police department's statement, initial attempts to communicate with the residents were fruitless, intensifying the palpable tension as each passing moment could have spelled disaster. Fortunately, two residents were eventually reached, denying any knowledge of an assault, but confirming other individuals, including children, were in the residence.
Anxious steps led officers inside, where they found that reality diverged sharply from the terrifying report – all residents and children were unharmed, untouched by the violence the caller had fabricated. No evidence corroborated the grim tableau painted in the distress call; it was just an empty canvas of fear.
The police urge anyone with information to step forward and contribute to the resolution of case number 24-0261, calls can be made to the detectives at 650-738-7314, or tip-offs can be submitted anonymously through the Silent Witness Tip Line at 650-359-4444 in a concerted effort to trace the origins of this hoax and prevent future occurrences.
