A tragic turn of events unfolded in Newburyport, Massachusetts, where a female pedestrian was killed after a pickup truck struck her, officials said. The incident occurred last night, at approximately 6:40 p.m. near City Hall on Green Street, casting a grim shadow over the historic district.
According to the NBC Boston, the lethal engagement between human flesh, and Ford steel took place at the juncture of Green and Pleasant streets, where city life meets with the unyielding laws of physics. The office of Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker disclosed the pedestrian's death following her transport to Anna Jacques Hospital. The victim’s name has yet to be released pending family notification.
Newburyport Police, Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis, firefighters, and emergency medical services responded to the scene. A medical helicopter was also called to the site but the woman was instead rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead, as WCVB reports.
The driver of the 2016 Ford F-150 involved in the horrific incident remained on the scene, cooperating with the authorities. Despite the ongoing investigation managed by the Newburyport Police and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, no charges or citations have been filed against the individual behind the wheel.
