A 63-year-old man from Pelham, New Hampshire, tragically died last week after an off-road vehicle crash in Hudson, NH rocked the local community. The fatal incident, which involved a single ATV and took place on private property, was reported to the authorities late Thursday night, according to NBC Boston.
The Hudson Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene at Old Derry Road at around 11:43 p.m. after a call came in about the crash. They discovered, that the 63-year-old man had been riding with another ATV enthusiast when he lost control and collided with a log, causing the vehicle to roll over him, as The Boston Globe reported. Life-saving attempts were made, but sadly the man was pronounced dead right there, where the earth met the tragedy.
Preliminary investigations suggest that alcohol and the conditions of the trail were contributing factors in the deadly mishap. The other rider, who was not involved in the incident, quickly dialed 911, summoning emergency responders to the location. The man's identity is being withheld until his family can be informed of the heartbreaking outcome.
The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, which has taken up the reins of the investigation, underscored the dangers of mixing alcohol with ATV riding. "Fish and Game would like to remind all riders to never drink alcohol while operating any motorized vehicle, always wear the appropriate safety equipment," the department emphasized, in a gesture aimed at preventing future occurrences of such preventable tragedies.
The continuing investigation into the accident will likely focus on the exact conditions and decisions that led to the rollover. It serves as a somber reminder of the importance of operating off-road vehicles with caution and sobriety.
