
A domestic disturbance in Pembroke Pines escalated into a violent confrontation early this morning, resulting in a SWAT standoff after a man reportedly stabbed his wife, according to police. The incident took place in the Grand Palms community, nestled in the 1400 block of Lacosta Drive, where officers and fire rescue teams responded to a call just after 6 a.m., as reported by NBC6.
Authorities revealed that the husband attacked his spouse with a knife before locking himself in the residence's garage. The Pembroke Pines Police Department said that the couple's five children were present at the time of the stabbing. In a startling development, a large police presence was established in the neighborhood, complete with, a SWAT truck positioned outside the embattled home.
The police successfully extricated the wife and children from the home, while the husband remained holed up. Graphic scenes from the emergency showed the victim being tended to by paramedics and placed into an ambulance, details of her condition remain undisclosed as she was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. "This morning at about 6:30, my neighbor from across the street called me and he said, ‘There’s police activity’,” recounted Ali Pourshariati, a local resident told Local 10 News.
The standoff drew to a close when SWAT team members were able to breach the garage and detain the suspect, who was then also conveyed to the hospital for treatment. A flash bang was heard just before the standoff ended, as per eyewitness reports. The nature of the initial altercation and the motive behind the stabbing remain undetermined, as the investigation presses forward. Authorities have assured the community that there is no further threat to public safety following the resolution of the crisis.
