Portland residents should keep their rain gear at the ready, as NWS Portland forecasts a damp and dreary week ahead. With consistent showers peppering the skies, a significant uptick in rainfall is expected, particularly through midweek. Today presents a 30 percent chance of showers amid mostly cloudy conditions and a high hovering near 58 degrees, according to the latest update from NWS Portland Oregon. The southeast wind is on a slight hustle at 5 to 14 mph, with new precipitation amounts sneaking in at less than a tenth of an inch.
Come nightfall, the likelihood of showers jumps to an 80 percent as the temperature dips to around 45 degrees. The south-southeast wind isn’t letting up either, gusting as high as 18 mph. Portenders of rain better brace themselves for Wednesday when showers, predicted before 4 pm, have a high chance of soaking the city at 90 percent, with similar precipitation amounts as nighttime.
But it's not all wet and gloom for Portlanders, as the forecast shows signs of reprieve later in the week. Thursday is set to break through the deluge as partly sunny skies make an appearance with a high near 58 degrees, offering a brief respite from the dampness that grips the region. Even the northeast wind is taking it easy, softly brushing at a modest 6 mph.
The long-term forecast doesn't stray far from the city's well-known moist disposition. As the weekend approaches, the hint of sunshine lingers until Saturday night when a chance of rain is slated to return after 4 am. The snow levels, which start at a lofty 2800 feet on Sunday night, are projected to plunge to the more pedestrian 1700 feet after midnight. And a mix of rain and snow is expected by Monday, with snow levels falling to 1400 feet, ensuring a brisk start to the next work week.
