Portland Police Apprehend Man Suspected of Attempted Murder in Carjacking; Accomplices Also DetainedSource: Portland Police Bureau

Police in Portland nabbed a man suspected of attempted murder and carjacking after pulling him over in a hotly pursued traffic stop. On the night of February 22, officers from the East Precinct of the Portland Police Bureau raced to the scene of a violent auto theft that turned into gunfire at Southeast Harold Street and Southeast 128th Avenue, as per the Portland Police Bureau's report.

The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Robert M. Morgan, was detained after police managed to quickly track down the stolen Ford Econoline van. Investigations concluded that Morgan had fired shots into the occupied van before brutally assaulting the victim and making off with the vehicle. But not alone in his endeavor, it was reported that two other suspects had fled the scene in a purple Suzuki SUV.

Minor injuries were sustained by the victim, an adult male, who required hospital treatment following the ordeal. Meanwhile, Morgan was carted off to the Multnomah County Detention Center where he faces a slew of charges—Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and Robbery in the First Degree (carjacking) among others.

The narrative took another twist when officers later located the Suzuki, suspected to be tied to Morgan's crime, at a convenience store parking lot. Traffic stops seemingly abound, the law enforcement conducted one more on Southeast 122nd Avenue and Powell Boulevard. The SUV's occupants, Zachary A. Rose and Jeremy A. Bute of Portland were restrained and charged with unrelated warrants. A firearm suspected to be used in the earlier shooting was also found within the SUV.

In a series of arrests that unfolded like dominoes toppling one after the other, the Portland Police have put three suspects behind bars. With the investigations still underway, the East Precinct's officers and Major Crimes Detectives continue to unravel the details of this attempted murder and carjacking incident that shattered the stillness of a Portland night.
