Portland police cracked down on illegal narcotics sales in a big way, executing a mission that netted numerous arrests and a significant drug haul in the Northeast 122nd Avenue corridor. The East Precinct personnel, along with a Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney, swept the area known for drug activity, especially around transit platforms — a response to the concerns from the community.
The bust, strategically focused to severely impact the trade of illicit substances, led to 14 arrests, with 15 felony charges and 11 misdemeanor charges laid out. According to the Portland Police Bureau, officers also served 19 active arrest warrants. The tally included 12 subject stops, 14 vehicle stops, 3 stolen vehicles, 2 vehicles eluding capture, and a single-vehicle pursuit. Adding to the fleet of law enforcement achievements, 5 vehicles were towed from the scene.
In the wake of the operation, a wealth of narcotics was seized — 35 fentanyl pills, 2 ounces of fentanyl powder, more than 5 ounces of methamphetamine, over 2 ounces of heroin, and 3.5 grams of cocaine. These confiscations speak to the epidemic levels of drug addiction plaguing communities, leveraging lives and security in their deadly exchange.
The police were able to effectively utilize the new pursuit policy, which led to particularly arrest a suspect known for drug dealing. Timothy Sullivan, 36, found himself in a deadbeat chase after officers spiked the vehicle he was in, causing its tires to deflate rapidly. He fled the stolen car, further attempting to outrun the law by cutting through residential yards. The scene escalated into a high-stakes game of cat and mouse as the PPB Air Support Unit closed in, and with the aid of K9 units, law enforcement was soon able to snare him.
Sullivan, who was driving a vehicle with no plates, attempted to first cunningly evade the police. Once caught, he was found with an array of drugs and cash, and it turned out he was wanted on multiple active felony warrants from various counties. In an outrageous display of opportunism, several arrests took place outside a drug recovery center, pointing a damning finger at the depths drug dealers will sink to ensnare those grappling with the specter of addiction.
