A suspect has been cuffed in a nearly two-year-old murder mystery of a young security guard gunned down on the job, authorities announced Wednesday.
Cedrick Damon Washington Jr., 31, was nabbed by U.S. Marshals on Tuesday in Portland, Oregon, for the May 2022 homicide of 22-year-old Sircharles Marc Anthony Jones, Portland Police reported. Charged with Murder in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Washington Jr. is cooling his heels in the Multnomah County Detention Center, pending proceedings.
The fatal shooting threw the south waterfront area into the spotlight when, in the early hours of May 6, 2022, police discovered Jones dead in a vehicle on the 2100 block of South River Parkway. The call came in at 3:21 a.m., and despite officers scurrying to scour for the shooter, the suspect gave them the slip that day, the police revealed.

Jones’ demise was classified as a homicide by the Medical Examiner’s Office, with a gunshot wound cited as the lethal infliction. His next of kin have been apprised, and, in remembrance of the young man cut down in the prime of his life, his photograph has been shared with the public’s gaze, and the family conveyed through the police.
The investigation had been ongoing since the shooting, with the Portland Police Homicide Unit canvassing the crime scene and spearheading efforts to track down the individual responsible for the act. The break in the case came over a year later, culminating in Washington Jr.'s arrest almost two years after Jones' death.
