San Antonio firefighters faced off against an early morning inferno that ravaged a garage on the city's northwest side. The blaze reportedly broke out in the early hours of Wednesday at a residence on the 1800 block of Alametos, near West Avenue. According to KENS 5, emergency services were called to the scene at around 1:52 a.m. following reports of a fire.
The arriving units were greeted with heavy smoke and flames billowing from the detached garage, packed to the rafters with contents, the situation was dire. Efforts were concentrated on preventing the fire from claiming the home as well, which, thanks to the firefighter's dexterity, remained unscathed. "No injuries were reported," and indeed the house stood firm while the garage succumbed entirely to the devouring flames, as per KENS 5.
Another account from FOX San Antonio confirmed the ruinous end met by the detached garage located near the intersection of Alametos and Brad. The structure was "extremely full" and was declared a total loss following the incident. All occupants of the main residence, however, were reported safe from harm's way.
While the residents count their fortunes for the safety of their hearth and home, the cause of the blaze remains a mystery. Investigations are underway to unravel the origins of the fire, a task left in the hands of local authorities. No estimate on the damages has been provided at this time, but the loss of the garage is evident, a stark reminder of the unpredictability of disaster.
