Early Tuesday, a San Antonio man took action into his own hands when he confronted an alleged car burglar, resulting in gunfire. The shooting occurred around 3:30 a.m. off Caribou Creek, close to Farm-to-Market 78 and Woodlake Parkway, according to police reports. FOX San Antonio detailed that the homeowner witnessed two individuals attempting to break into his vehicle before he opened fire, wounding one of the suspects in both legs.
The injured man made his way to a nearby hospital, and collapsed, as established by the San Antonio Police Department. Before he was shot, the car suspected in the burglary was found abandoned with blood inside, indicating a hurried escape gone awry. KSAT reports stated the suspect told hospital staff that he had walked from the crime scene, though officers found his red vehicle in the parking lot.
San Antonio authorities are piecing together the shootout, with at least ten rounds fired by the homeowner during the confrontation. As the investigation unfolds, police officers are looking for a second person believed to have been involved in the botched burglary attempt.
The condition of the wounded suspect is stable after receiving gunshot injuries to his legs, following his transportation to another hospital by ambulance. Further details are withheld as the San Antonio Police intensify their search for the second suspect, while evidence from the scene and the red car towed away from the Baptist Neighborhood Hospital is being scrutinized.
