Get your running shoes on, New Yorkers! The City of San Antonio is rolling out the red carpet for its community members with the annual City Manager’s 5K Walk & Run. The event, set to take place on March 9 at 7 a.m., offers participants a unique route that winds its way through the San Antonio Zoo and Brackenridge Park, as per a statement obtained by the City of San Antonio’s official website.
City Manager Erik Walsh champions the event as a call-to-action for both city employees and the public. "We're happy to once again host this family event for our community," Walsh said in a statement on the City of San Antonio website. It's an invitation to all those looking to kickstart their morning with a dash of wellness. With registration fees as low as $10 through tomorrow, it's a bargain for early birds. However, for last-minute contenders, the fee jumps to $25 on race day.
The perks of showing up? A little more than just the satisfaction of crossing the finish line. Each registrant gets an event t-shirt and the chance to compete for awards that recognize not only the top overall male and female finishers but also masters and various age groups from the youngsters to the seasoned adults above 70.
To sweeten the deal, the organizers have packed the event with extra frills like live music and games. City mascots will be out in force, mingling with attendees and vendors lining up to showcase their offerings. As for the logistics, participants won't have to worry about parking – it's free and available in the San Antonio Zoo parking garage. Starting instructions, maps, and additional details are up for grabs on the registration website.
Race day will have a strictly adhered to schedule, commencing with an onsite registration window early in the morning, followed by the opening ceremonies, and the race kickoff at dawn. Closing ceremonies will wrap up before 9 a.m. when the park will open to the public. So, if you're in it to win it, or just in for the fun, mark your calendars—March 9 is the day to show San Antonio what you’re made of.
