A San Antonio man found himself behind bars following a routine traffic stop when authorities discovered THC products and a slew of illegally modified weapons in his car, officials said.

The Kerr County Sheriff's Office reports that deputies, initiated a traffic stop on February 21 along Interstate 10, near mile marker 492, where they stumbled upon the illegal contraband. Suspect Jason Jay Villarreal, 46, was subsequently taken into custody after a probable cause search unearthed a staggering 21 grams of THC products and multiple firearms, one of which, a 9mm handgun was altered to fire fully automatic, a stark violation of the law.

Aside from the modified handgun, the deputies found an additional eight firearms in Villarreal's possession. With a rap sheet that already marked him as a felon, the discovery of the weapons escalated the charges, earning him a jarring nine counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, as well as charges for possession of a controlled substance and possession of a prohibited weapon, as per KENS5.

Villarreal, currently detained at the Kerr County Jail, faces a combined bond of $175,000."Stopping felons possessing firearms of any type, but especially one modified in this way, is a win for public safety in our region. Removing drugs from circulation slows a drug trade that often comes with violence. Our deputies did a great job on this case." Sheriff Larry Leitha told KENS5.

The investigation into Villarreal's activities is ongoing, hinting at the possibility of additional charges.
