The San Antonio Police Department is delving into a somber case after a 15-year-old boy was shot in the head last night in an incident that could signify a targeted attack or a frightful act of randomness. As reported by KSAT 12 News, the teen and his mother were attempting to access The Haven apartments through its gate when the unexpected gunfire erupted.
The police received a distress call and arrived to find the teenager with a critical wound, accompanied by his mother in a car desperately seeking help. The duo had moved to a nearby parking lot on W. Military Drive near Highway 151 where they made the emergency call. Struggling with critical injuries, the boy was then rushed to the hospital by ambulance.
Authorities, probing the scene, indicated that the gunfire might have been an ambush, given that the shooter, along with four others, emerged suddenly from a darker area near the apartment complex's leasing office before opening fire on the victim's vehicle. According to the officers, immediately after the violent act, the perpetrator managed to flee the scene in a white car, with no further description available.
Security footage could be pivotal in this investigation, as surveillance cameras installed on the front of the leasing office may hold glaring evidence. Nonetheless, the clarity on if and how these technological eyes captured the brutal moment and the assailant's identity remains murky. The mother, after her child was shot, called for help from a parking lot as the shooter melted away in the night's fabric.
