San Antonio police are on the hunt for a driver involved in a deadly street racing incident that killed 30-year-old Daynier Bello-Vazquez early this month. KENS5 reports the catastrophic event unfolded around 2:28 a.m. on February 4 when the victim was racing beside a white four-door sedan southbound on the 800 block of Blanco Rd.
The fatal sequence of events began as Bello-Vazquez lost control of his Lincoln MKT, striking a curb and a utility pole before coming to rest in a backyard. The Lincoln eventually caught fire, and despite first responders' efforts, Bello-Vazquez was pronounced dead at the scene. KSAT details the crash occurred near Blanco Road and Briarcliff Drive, close to Lockhill Selma Road.
Officials say the driver of the suspected white sedan briefly returned to the scene after the tragic crash but failed to render aid or provide identification before fleeing the area. This person is now the focal point of a search by the San Antonio Police Department, as well as a Crime Stoppers appeal.
Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest of the at-large driver. Anonymous tips can be relayed directly to Crime Stoppers to be eligible for the reward, with citizens encouraged to call 210-224-STOP, text their information, or use the P3 Tips app.
