It's not just child's play though; competitors in the Senior Level stand to win up to $14,000 in scholarships for their prowess at the programming rodeo.
The event, which has spiced up the rodeo scene for about eight years, now sees participants directing robots to navigate tasks such as sending animals to a waiting room or transporting mock lab samples—a blend of agriculture and technology that stands to define future farming techniques. Derrick Bruton, superintendent of the Agrobotics event, told FOX San Antonio, "It's extremely important. They're learning, engineering skills, time management skills. they're learning how to work and cooperate with each other uh, to accomplish a task."
One participant, 12-year-old Ryland Flores, shared his excitement in a statement obtained by FOX San Antonio. He said, "It's fun. It's definitely different than what I was used to with just normal Lego robotics cause like the different themes with the like the animals, that type of stuff." With the entry of Agrobotics into the rodeo arena, 4H robotics teams are not only honing their technological skills but also getting a chance to tie their interest in robotics to tangible rewards, according to KSAT.
