After four decades of shucking oysters and serving seafood to the San Antonio community, the Dry Dock Oyster Bar has been padlocked by its landlord for unpaid rent. Located on Fredericksburg Road near the Medical Center, the nautically-themed eatery has been in operation since 1982 but is now facing rough waters.
On February 12, a notice was prominently affixed to the door of the restaurant, laying bare the crux of the situation: "We are notifying you that you are in default under the lease," landlord Geu Kim's stark message read, as reported by Express News. It seems the beloved local joint had hit a snag that would require more than a nautical mile to overcome.
The unexpected closure sent ripples through social media, where patrons and fans of Dry Dock's extensive seafood menu aired their concerns and sought answers. Hope was cast upon these waters by a man named Richard Rico, who claimed to be an employee at the restaurant. "This is just a set back and we will be opening [our] doors again," he vowed on a social media post, signaling a determination to navigate through these financial straits, as per MSN.
Despite the uncertainties casting a shadow, there appears to be a plan to reopen Dry Dock's doors between the 25 and 28 of the month, a claim that stems from Rico's remarks. Yet, it remains unclear in what position Rico serves at Dry Dock, and as of Saturday, neither he nor the restaurant responded to attempts for a further statement, leaving residents and regulars adrift in a sea of speculation.
