
A tragic incident at Brandeis High School has led to the death of an instructional assistant, known affectionately as "Mr. Fred" by students and staff. Alfred Jimenez, who worked with students that have moderate to severe cognitive disabilities, suffered a fatal head injury after an interaction with a student on February 7, according to KENS 5.
Jimenez had been a staff member at the Northside ISD since 2014, dedicating his efforts to support the special needs of his students. After the incident, campus staff immediately attended to him, and he was quickly taken for medical treatment by EMS, Northside ISD spokesman Barry Perez conveyed in a statement. Despite the efforts to save him, Jimenez succumbed to his injuries over the previous weekend.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation by campus administrators and Northside ISD Police, as they confirm adherence to the district's policies and applicable laws. In expressing their grief, the school extended its heartfelt condolences to the Jimenez family and affirmed its commitment to supporting both them and the affected campus community, with counselors being made available for those in need.
"The Brandeis High School community is saddened to report the passing of Alfred 'Mr. Fred' Jimenez, a valuable Northside family member since 2014," shared the school in a statement on KENS5. Emphasizing his significant role on campus, the statement highlighted how Jimenez's impact was "far reaching and impacted students and staff both in and out of the classroom." Meanwhile, the cause of the incident reportedly occurred while attempting to redirect a student, ending tragically with Jimenez falling and receiving the head injury, according to MySA.
