
A San Antonio teacher has landed behind bars for allegedly sending nude pictures of himself to a high school student, shaking the local community. Miguel Angel Nava Jr., 29, a former mathematics teacher at John F. Kennedy High School, faces charges including having an improper relationship with a 17-year-old student and sharing harmful material with a minor, FOX San Antonio reported.
According to the details disclosed, another student initially raised the alarm about the unsettling situation this student, whose name remains anonymous due to her age, was reported to have been the recipient of explicit images from Nava and although she was hesitant to engage, she became a centerpiece in the subsequent police investigation, as revealed by KSAT.
Nava, who has since been shown the door by the Edgewood Independent School District, gave a nod to the accusations of sending the inappropriate images, while during questioning, by police, he owned up to both sending nude photographs to the girl and kissing her in his classroom space but he staunchly refuted any claims that the relationship escalated to a sexual nature, the girl mirrored this denial in her statements to authorities.
Following a thorough probe, which involved combing through the evidence on both Nava and the student's cellphones, the police managed to recover the incriminating images that Nava admitted he sent, the man has been processed through the judicial system and bond was posted for his release, yet there are no current indications that suggest Nava had engaged in similar misconduct with any other students, putting some to rest nearly as many fears as they have sparked fired by the school district which emphasizes the utmost priority on safety for students and faculty, encouraging individuals to stay vigilant and report any suspicious behavior to the dedicated 24-Hour Safeline.
Edgewood ISD posted a brief and pointed statement regarding the incident: "Edgewood ISD was made aware of a teacher accused of solicitation of a student. The Edgewood ISD Police Department took immediate action with an investigation and obtained an arrest warrant. The teacher is no longer employed with EISD."
