An 18-year-old has been charged with the murder of a 17-year-old following a fatal shooting at a Northeast Side apartment complex, police said. The suspect, Octavious Tomrion Galloway, was apprehended after a police stop of a vehicle seen in surveillance footage leaving the scene of the crime.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, the incident occurred yesterday afternoon in the 3700 block of Binz Engleman Road, as reported by KSAT. Officers responding to a call found the victim with gunshot wounds to his neck and jaw. The medical examiner's office had not yet released the identity of the teen, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The mother of the deceased teen was alerted by a family friend of her son's demise, according to statements in the affidavit. This friend, who had been housing her son along with Galloway and her other children, initially misled investigators regarding Galloway's whereabouts at the time of the killing.
Witnesses and video evidence played a critical role in the case. A witness account, along with footage obtained by investigators, showed that after returning from a trip to a retail store with the victim and others, "Galloway shot the victim at least eight times," noted The San Antonio Express-News. In the video, the victim is seen on the ground as an individual attempts to pull the assailant away before several vehicles hastily depart from the complex.
The San Antonio Police Department executed an arrest warrant earlier today, and Galloway was taken into custody shortly thereafter. Bail for Galloway has been set at $150,000 following the charge of murder. Despite the allegations, Galloway asserted that he was at another location during the entirety of the day when the shooting took place.
