A fatal scuffle at a Point Loma vacation rental claimed the life of a 38-year-old man early Monday morning, according to San Diego police. Lt. Daniel Meyer, in a statement obtained by the Times of San Diego, reported that after receiving a distress call about a man in a physical altercation, officers arrived on the scene at the 2800 block of Poinsettia Drive to find the victim unresponsive.
Paramedics frantically transported the man to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The house was believed to be rented by a group from out of town. Police detained the 44-year-old man involved in the incident, yet it's unclear if the confrontation was a result of self-defense or if the parties were acquainted; Lt. Jud Campbell mentioned in an interview with ABC 10News.
San Diego Police Department's Homicide Unit is combing through the details, mulling over what sparked the deadly confrontation and the role of the chokehold that allegedly culminated in the 38-year-old man's medical crisis and subsequent death. Locals have been made aware of potential traffic disruptions near Oleander and Poinsettia drives as the investigation surges forward.
While the identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of kin, the San Diego County Medical Examiner is tasked with pinpointing the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, authorities have extended a call to the public seeking information that could piece together the events that led to this tragedy, urging anyone with insights to reach out to the SDPD's Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or to remain anonymous by contacting Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477, this according to both ABC 10News and the Times of San Diego.
