Tragedy struck on a west side highway in San Antonio Tuesday night when a man was struck and killed in a hit-and-run incident, and now police are on the hunt for the callous driver who left the scene. The fatal collision occurred around 8:30 p.m. along Highway 90 near Military Drive West, with witnesses reporting to KENS 5 that a dark-colored sedan struck the pedestrian and did not stop.
Upon arrival, San Antonio Police found the victim had already succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Another driver, bearing a witness to the aftermath, had stopped to assist the victim, with the police stating they had little to go on in regards to a suspect vehicle beyond it being a dark-colored sedan, according to a report from FOX San Antonio.
The incident highlights a grim trend in the state, brought to light by a recent study from High Rise Legal Funding as reported by KENS 5, ranking Texas roads as the 13th most dangerous for pedestrians nationally. Evidently, dark has become more deadly, with pedestrian deaths on Texas roads comprising 18% of all traffic fatalities—a figure that overshadows the national average.
