Chaos erupted by the Square One Mall in Saugus when a lone gunshot broke the usual hum of suburban life yesterday afternoon. According to The Boston Globe, Saugus Police were called to a strip mall on Main Street at 4:17 p.m. following reports of a shot fired. Authorities found a shell casing at the scene, but no injuries have been reported.
A witness dining inside the Buffalo Wild Wings recounted hearing the gunshot. He stated, in an account obtained by Boston 25 News, his observations of two men running from the scene and a black sedan speeding off. Police are now searching for the possible suspects linked to this incident.
In the immediate response, police detained an individual who matched a description provided by an eyewitness. However, spokesperson Kelli O’Hara confirmed that the detained person was later released after the witness clarified it was the wrong person, according to The Boston Globe. At present, none are in custody, and the investigation continues.
Saugus and Massachusetts State Police officials are digging deeper into the occurrence as the search for suspects persists. While they found ballistics evidence on the ground, the lack of victims at the scene leaves many questions unanswered. Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to reach out to the Saugus Police Department. The public awaits further updates as more details about this troubling event unfold.
