In the South Park neighborhood of Seattle, a 50-year-old man's night took a turn for the worse when police arrested him for DUI and found a handgun and ammunition in his vehicle.
According to Seattle Police Department, the incident occurred yesterday, when the suspect was discovered by officers in a black Cadillac Escalade, slumped and unresponsive behind the wheel just before 2 a.m., at the intersection of Third Avenue South and South Henderson Street. Upon closer inspection, officers observed not only drug paraphernalia but also a handgun within arm's reach in the center console. It was suspected that the man was under the influence of narcotics.
After the driver was roused and exited his vehicle, he was detained, taken in for questioning, and held at the Southwest Precinct. The search of the suspect's Escalade uncovered a fully loaded .45 caliber handgun, 10 magazines of ammo, as well as a silencer, holster, and a pair of rifle magazines. Alarmingly, the suspect was found to be someone who is barred by law from carrying a firearm.
Following the discovery, Seattle police took no chances and booked the man into the King County Jail, charging him with unlawful possession of firearms and DUI-physical control. The Seattle PD's blotter provided the details of the arrest, indicating the gravity of the situation, where a potential tragedy may have been averted thanks to the officers' midnight vigilance.
